Doug E. Fresh BET Awards: The Cypher Revealed
This rap is important because Doug E. Fresh was the first beat-boxer which allowed Hip-Hop to develop into what it is today. Doug E. Fresh’s first song was “La Di Da Di” which inspired future beatboxers. Additionally, this led to many beatboxing competitions. In 2003, the Vowel Movement became the leading organization for beatboxers in the Bay Area. In 2005, in Leipzig, Germany the first official beatboxing competition took place named Hip Hop World Challenge. Additionally, as seen in the back there are turntables in which hip-hop originated through DJ’s. DJ, or disk jockey is one of the four distinct elements of hip-hop. I really like this song because it incorporated three of the four distinct elements of hip-hop. Also, even with little words, the beat really allowed the listener to connect with the music. Finally, beatboxing was a free way for those into music to express themselves in poorer neighborhoods.
I never knew that Dougie Fresh started the trend of Beat-Boxing! It's so weird to think about what music would be like nowadays without his influences!
