Lauryn Hill Album:
Lost ones)
- When you say “cause karma, karma, karma comes back to you hard” is that from personal experience?
- You can’t win everything, negative things will happen to you
- This reminds me of when I was little and I played a basketball game against my fourth grade “enemy.” All the mean things this girl did to me, came back to her and my sister and I won the game in karma. This shows she “just lost one.”
Ex-Factor)
- When you say “Why won’t you live for me” do you mean metaphorically or literally?
- Love means no matter what and caring for each other
- This reminds me of a short story I read last year in English. The woman continually loved the man and was there for him, even when he wasn’t there for her. Every time she tried to leave, he fought for her back, though never did anything to change his actions.
To Zion)
- How did you overcome what others said and listen to your heart?
- Listen to your heart, rather than the words of others for it's you life.
- This reminds me of when
Doo Woop)
- When you say “that thing,” do people want more from you because you are famous?
- Avoid what other people want from you, and do listen to your personal self.
- This reminds me of when people use smart people to do their homework for them than don’t let ever make an effort to be nice to them or hang out with them.
Superstar)
- How do you recommend prevented when “we ain’t getting no higher?”
- Just because you have it all, doesn’t mean you need to put others down; what you give is what you get.
- When I was younger my parents would tell me that if you are nice to others, they will be nice to you.
Final Hour)
- When you say, “But keep your eyes on the Final Hour” what religion are you?
- Superficial things do not matter in the eyes of God.
- In Sacred Text, we focused on Judgement Day in Islam, and how you should be nice to others not only for yourself and your Judgement Day, but for the benefit of the world.
When it Hurts So Bad)
- When you say “I existed for you,” when it didn’t work out did you no longer want to exist?
- Don’t put your whole heart in something, it will be returned in pieces.
- People always tell me risking your happiness in a friendship isn’t worth it unless you are getting back what you put in. We also learned this in Sacred Text.
I Used to Love Him)
- Is sacrificing “too much” and choosing “a road of passion and pain” worth it?
- Don’t make decisions based on others, listen to your heart of “gold.”
Forgive Them Father)
- How can we recognize if someone “know{s} not what they do”?
- Forgive those that are ignorant “for they know not what they do.”
- Every time when I was little, someone was mean to me, I learned to forgive them, because they forgot what they did the next day, or didn’t know what they did was hearful.
Every Ghetto, Every City)
- Did you have any hope of going far?
- Opportunity and the “streets” hold people back, even with the American Dream.
- We always focus in class on the people who made it, not the people whose childhood home overcame their capabilities based on limited resources.
Nothing Even Matters)
- Does J. Cole’s sampling properly represent your song?
- Love can get you through tough things.
- When Lauryn Hill says, “see I don’t need no alcohol,” this is similar to teenagers today who think they need alcohol to be fun at parties, even though that is not true.
Everything is Everything)
- Do you believe our philosophy is present in all languages?
- Injustice is powerful, though through Hip Hop we can “develop a negative into a positive picture.”
- The verse, “tomorrow, our seeds will grow” reminds me of my math teacher. My math teacher always tells us “I’m just planting the seeds” in order to make the future math to come easier.
