Kendra: U-Kendrick Lamar

On Tuesday January 5, 2016 we listened to some of the most important songs on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly. One of my favorites was U. Kendrick talked about his life and placing blame on himself. This vulnerable state helps Kendrick relate to his audience. In verse 1, we start to hear some of the blame with his sister. He also claims, "You ain't no leader! I never liked you, forever despise you." Kendrick puts shame on himself for his family and friends. In Verse 2, I especially liked how Kendrick showed his emotion when you hear him crying and then in drinking. I think the most powerful thing about his message is that everyone has their own demon of "U", but with that eventually comes the joy of "I".
